Note: Use of on-line application for new / re-issue of passports would ensure faster processing and avoid inadvertent typing errors. Please ignore the appointment generated by the on-line system. The print-out of the on-online application form can be submitted in person at the Consulate General in Munich between 09:30 and 11:00 hrs on any working day or sent by post.
Re-Issue of Passport
A new Indian passport may be applied for if the current passport has expired or will expire within 1 year or the visa pages are full or if the current passport is a hand-written passport. The following documents / items are required for the application:
- Application form (preferably print-out of the on-line form), filled out completely and duly signed along with supporting documents (forms are available on the passport form downloads page.
- 3 colour photographs, non-biometric, size 51 mm x 51 mm with light colour background and showing frontal view of full face of the applicant. The height of head from top of hair to bottom of chin should not exceed 35 mm, i.e. not to cover more than 70% of the photograph.
- Current passport of the applicant in original (applicant may submit photocopy of relevant pages initially for the processing period of 4 weeks).
- Copy of the residence permit.
- For addition of spouse name in the new passport (for the first time), please provide a copy of the marriage certificate, marriage photograph and copy of the inside cover pages of the spouse's passport.
- Change of Indian address in the passport requires documentary proof of new address (bank statement / utility bill / driving licence, etc.)
- Postal applicants should attach proof of deposit of fee into Indian Consulate's bank account and also send a self-addressed stamped (for registered post: 3.50 EUR) medium size envelope for return of documents.
The regular Indian passport, valid for 10 years, contains 36 pages. Frequent travellers can obtain 60-page "jumbo" passports, also valid for 10 years. Children under 15 years are issued passport valid for 5 years.
Fees: 50 EUR* (normal passport) or 62 EUR* (jumbo passport booklet) or 32 EUR* (for children under 15 years with 5 year validity). Hierin enthalten sind jeweils 2,00 EUR Bearbeitungsgebühr (ab 1. April 2011).
Duplicate Passport
A duplicate Indian passport may be applied for if the current passport has been lost or damaged. The following documents / items are required for the application:
- Application form (preferably print-out of the on-line form), filled out completely and duly signed along with supporting documents (forms are available on the passport form downloads page).
- Additional Details Form (also available on the passport form downloads page).
- Nationality affidavit – in case of loss of passport (also available on the passport form downloads page) – to be signed in the presence of Consular Officer at the Consulate between 9:30 hrs & 11.00 hrs on any working day.
- 4 colour photographs, non-biometric, size 51 mm x 51 mm with light colour background and showing frontal view of full face of the applicant. The height of head from top of hair to bottom of chin should not exceed 35 mm, i.e., not to cover more than than 70% of the photograph.
- Current passport of the applicant in original (in case of damamge), or photocopies of the relvant pages (in case of loss).
- Copy of a residence permit.
- A written statement by the applicant, explaining the circumstances that lead to the loss / damage of the passport.
- Original police report confirming the loss of the passport (in case of loss).
- A letter from local registration authority confirming your registration.
Fee: 152 EUR*. An additional penalty for the loss or damage may be charged, on a case-to-case basis.
Passport for a new-born Child
A separate Indian passport valid for 5 years is issued to the new-born child. The following documents / items are required for the application:
- Application form (preferably print-out of the on-line form), filled out completely and duly signed along with supporting documents (forms are available on the passport form downloads page).
- The application for the registration of birth of a child at an Indian Consulate under Section 4(1) of the Citizenship Act, 1955 (also available on the passport form downloads page) to be signed by both parents and submited at the Consulate between 9:30 hrs & 11.00 hrs on any working day in person by one of the parents of the child.
- Birth certificate of the child (original + copy) and passports of the child's parents (original + copy). Original passports/birth certificate would be returned immediately and copies retained by the Consulate.
- 4 colour photographs, non-biometric, size 51 mm x 51 mm with light colour background and showing frontal view of full face of the applicant. The height of head from top of hair to bottom of chin should not exceed 35 mm, i.e., not to cover more than 70% of the photograph.
- Copies of the marriage certificate of the parents and their residence permits.
- Proof of Indian address (bank statement / utility bill / driving licence, etc.), if different from the one mentioned in a parent's passport.
Fee: 59 EUR (32 EUR* for passport and 27 EUR* for birth registration).
Change of Name in a Passport
In case of marriage, re-marriage, divorce or other circumstances that lead to a change of name of an Indian citizen the name in the passport must be altered. The following documents / items are required for the application:
- "Miscellaneous Services" application form (available on the passport form downloads page), filled out completely and duly signed along with supporting documents.
- Current passport of the applicant (also attach copy of the laminated pages of the passport to the miscellaneous services form).
- 1 recent passport-size colour photograph of the applicant (duly pasted on the miscellaneous services form).
- The new name must be published in newspapers, both in Germany and in India, in the area of the applicant's residence(s). Original newspaper pages must be submitted along with the application. The applicant needs to visit the Consulate, with his/her passport, and sign an affidavit in the presence of the Consular Officer at the Consulate between 9:30 hrs & 11.00 hrs on any working day.
- For change of surname only due to (re-)marriage: Marriage certificate (original + 1 copy), marriage photograph & copy of spouse's passport. The applicant and the spouse need to visit the Consulate, with their passports, and sign an affidavit in the presence of the Consular Officer at the Consulate between 9:30 hrs & 11.00 hrs on any working day [publication of new name in newspapers is not required in this case].
- Copy of the residence permit.
Fee: 14 EUR*
Note: Change of name by way of endorsement in the passport pages is not read by the passport reading machines. It is, therefore, advisable that the applicant should simultaneously (or as early as possible) apply for re-issue of passport as per procedure in “Re-issue of Passport” section above.
